With fall arriving in many regions, it’s an ideal time for one more outdoor family gathering. Cooler temperatures and a decline in biting insects make it easy to spend hours outdoors together. Gather the family. Celebrate fall’s arrival with harvested crops and excellent weather for outdoor fun.
Late Summer Crops Suitable for Grilling.
If your parent has a grill, fire it up and cook chicken, sausages, burgers, or whatever appeals to people. Many fall vegetables are easy to cook on a grill, too. Slices of summer squash, whole corn cobs still in their husk, and potatoes are all options. You can also use the grill to roast vegetables like carrots, bell peppers, onions, and winter squash.
Fun Fall Games People of Any Age Can Enjoy.
Children have energy to burn, so find outdoor games that everyone can enjoy together. A bean bag or cornhole toss, bocce ball, and croquet are all options.
Cornhole is an easy game to create if you need a cheap game. Take a board or thick piece of cardboard, drill or cut a hole in one end, and fill small cloth gift bags with dried beans or dried corn. Tie the ends of the bag to keep the bag from opening and you have your bean bags. Players take turns trying to toss the bag into the hole.
Activities for Kids and Grandparents to Do Together.
Pumpkins are plentiful in the fall. While it may be a little too early to carve them for Halloween, your kids and parents can decorate pumpkins together using glue, glitter, paint, and other decorative items. If they do this craft project outside, it’s also easy to clean up.
Colorful leaves are another project children and their grandparents enjoy. Have your parent teach your child how to press the leaves flat in a thick book. Once they’re flat, they can preserve them in wax paper and frame them for lasting artwork.
Fall is also a good time to look at your parent’s abilities. Do they have a hard time climbing a ladder to weatherproof windows and clear gutters? Do they frequently get fast food or take out meals? Can they drive safely once the sun sets? It may be time to arrange for helpful services.
